A special type of disease associated with borreliae is infection caused by Borrelia miyamotoi. which was discovered in Japan in 1995. However, it is now found worldwide. In recent years, Borrelia miyamotoi has been increasingly found in ticks (England, Germany, USA, Russia, etc.), there have also been reported cases of .
Borrelia miyamotoi belongs to the group of causative agents of relapsing fevers and can cause symptoms such as : recurrent fever, chills, headache, joint and muscle pain, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, sometimes conjunctivitis and cough with an incubation period of 5-15 days.
Symptoms usually occur within 2-9 days. They may recur in periods of varying length or persist. Unlike infection with Borrelia burgdoferi, erythema migrans usually does not appear.
Atypical symptoms of infection caused by Borrelia miyamotoi may include Abdominal pain, diarrhea, hepatitis, myocarditis, arrhythmias, pulmonary symptoms (e.g., ARDS), disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), facial nerve palsy, hearing loss, iritis (inflammation of the iris), polyneuropathy, or neuropsychiatric disorders.
